Median raphe cyst with ciliated cells of the penis.

چکیده
Sir, Median raphe cysts of the penis are uncommon benign lesions that affect young men. The cysts are lined with pseudostratified columnar or stratified squamous cell epithelium, mimicking the epithelial lining of the male urethra. Immunohistochemical study also indicates a histogenetic relationship with the urothelium. To our knowledge, there have been only 2 reports of ciliated epithelium in this kind of cyst published previously (1, 2). We describe here a rare case of median raphe cyst of the penis with ciliated cells, and discuss the histopathological and immunohistochemical features.

Median raphe cyst is a rare lesion located on the median raphe. The cyst wall is lined by cuboidal to columnar cells, transitional (urothelial) cells, stratified squamous cells or a mixture of these. The normal urethral mucosa and the median raphe cyst usually lack melanocytes and/or melanin pigment. However, albeit extremely rare, the presence of melanin pigment and/or melanocytes in median ra...

متن کاملMedian raphe cyst of the penis.
Cysts of the median raphe are uncommon. We describe a 43-year-old man with an asymptomatic nodule on the glans penis. Excision of the lesion was performed followed by histological and immunohistochemical studies. Histopathological examination revealed a solitary unilocular cystic cavity in the corium, lined by a pseudostratified columnar epithelium, among which mucinous cells where identified. ...
